The CD printers have promised me they’ll pull out all stops to get the CDs onto the next truck into Birdsville, so fingers crossed!
The truck’s still my best option! I remember from my Birdsville days, suppliers would say ‘we’ll have it there tomorrow’.The conversation usually went something like this…
‘No you won’t.’
‘Yes we will.’
‘You can’t, it’s impossible.’
‘We promise 24 hour delivery Australia-wide’
‘The mail plane doesn’t come till Thursday and the truck leaves on Wednesday and takes 2 days to get here, so unless you’re going to use the Starship Enterprise’s transporter – there’s no way you’ll get it here within 24 hours.’
‘Ah but we use couriers!’
‘Couriers don’t come here.’
‘Yes they do, they’re Australia-wide.’
‘No they don’t.’
‘Yes they do, trust me.’
‘I have been through this before you know… boxes sent by courier get lost. Sometimes they never arrive at all! Can you send it by Australia Post?’
‘We use couriers for all our shipping.’
‘Please, would you just check?’
‘…I’ve asked my supervisor. She says we can only use couriers. They are Australia-wide, you know.’
‘Ok, well would you please deliver it to the truck depot in Adelaide then, instead of sending it to me?’
‘It’d be quicker if we sent it straight to Birdsville.’
‘Please, just humour me…’
Basically whether the delivery arrived or not was pot luck!
